Panthers shock Redskins

The Porterville High baseball team worked some late magic Wednesday at home to defeat Tulare Union 8-7.

With bases loaded, two outs and two strikes on Joel Cowart, Redskins pitcher Jose Aguilar hit Cowart with a breaking ball, which allowed Thomas Martin to trot home from third base.

Tulare Union was the East Yosemite League’s only undefeated team at 8-0 prior to Wednesday.

Phillip Carganilla tossed five innings and allowed just one earned run to land the win for Porterville (15-8, 6-3 EYL).

Thomas Martin was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and two RBIs. Kevin Hulse went 1-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run.

The Panthers will travel to take on Cesar Chavez at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The Marauders blanked the Titans.

Mitchell Crocker pitched a complete game and struck out six to earn the win for Monache High (16-9, 7-3 EYL).

Andrew Vasquez finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored while Micah McCrillis went 3-for-4 with two runs, a triple and one RBI.

Nate Crocker was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Steven Jones went 3-for-3 with three runs, two stolen bases and an RBI.

The Marauders shut out the Titans in five innings.

Chelsey Anderson threw a complete game and struck out four while walking just one for Monache High (19-4, 9-1 EYL).

At the plate, Anderson was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Chandra Jones finished 3-for-3 with a double and Lisa Barrios was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Breann Land went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.

The Marauders racked up 21 hits as a team.

The Cardinals crushed the Cavaliers in five innings.

It was Lindsay High’s (10-12, 8-4 East Sequoia League) fourth victory in a row.

Hayley Kendig was the winning pitcher, striking out six, walking one and surrendering only five hits.

Alley Salinas went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Maricela Villarreal finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a pair of stolen bases.

The Marauders mauled the Titans in five innings.

Katherine “Kat” Figueroa hit a grand slam and garnered six strikeouts in the circle.

Chelsea Duldulao and Sol Nunez both delivered doubles while Emily Raya and Savanah Williams contributed singles. Shortstop Ashley Moreno turned in a solid defensive effort.

The Redskins rallied past the Panthers.

Porterville High (12-8, 5-3 EYL) led 5-2 after four innings, but couldn’t hold on.

Dean Cowart went 3-for-3. Mitchell Kurz and Mitchel Villarreal both added two hits.
