Strathmore tennis beats Hanford

Being the two-time defending Division VI Valley champion, the Strathmore High girls tennis team has been used to hits share of success. Still, Thursday’s 7-2 win over a much bigger school than Hanford was impressive.

“It’s nice,” Strathmore coach Jim Melching said. 

“We played pretty well.”

Strathmore (2-0) won five of the six singles matches as Amy Clifton won 7-6 (7-3), Brianna Rodriguez won 6-1, Jessica Moreno won 6-3, Savanna Moore won 6-1 and Tranabi Yalamanchili won 6-1. Marisa Tsuboi lost 2-6 for Strathmore.

In doubles in pro eight game sets, Clifton and Moore won 8-2 and Moreno and Rodriguez won 8-2. Cecelia Moreno and Sharanya Thiaganajan lost 4-8 for the Spartans.
