Strathmore High soccer player Victoria Rutherford is a huge fan of the sport and her favorite player is Landon Donovan and her devotion was rewarded by Donovan, who sent a signed Christmas card courtesy of Upper Deck.
Rutherford’s father, Robert, bought a Landon Donovan piece through the Upper Deck online store for Christmas to give to Victoria. At the same time, Upper Deck was looking to select a worthy customer to provide something more for that customer who made an online purchase from Upper Deck. Upper Deck stated after calling a few customers and finding out more about Victoria, it decided she would be the chosen customer.
Upper Deck provided a Christmas card with Donovan’s image that was signed by Donovan. On the card, Donovan wrote, “To Victoria, Thanks for all the Love.”
The image of Donovan on the card that was sent to Victoria can be seen at upperdeckblog.com/2012/01/featured-collector-landon-donovan-surprises-super-collector-at-christmas and on Donovan’s Facebook page.
Due to her busy schedule with school and soccer practice, Rutherford is unable to make any of the Los Angeles Galaxy game’s at the Home Depot Center to watch Donovan. But she doesn’t miss the games when they are shown on television.
Rutherford starts for the SHS girls soccer team, the Valley’s No. 1 ranked Division V team, and is a versatile performer, who can play different positions. Just like Donovan led the Galaxy to the Major League Soccer Cup title, Rutherford hopes to help lead Strathmore to the Valley title.
Rutherford commutes about an hour a day to school where she attends Harmony Magnet Academy and maintains a 4.24 grade point average.
