Spartans' Soria wins final top player vote

Soria received 69 percent of the 16 votes cast. Exeter's Cameron Loefffler took 19 percent and Strathmore's Eric Ruiz and Exeter's Josh Wilson each received 6 percent.
In the Spartans' 56-21 loss to Bakersfield Christian during the semifinal round of the Division V playoffs last Friday night, Soria finished with 103 yards on 11 carries.
His longest run of the night came on his last attempt and was good for a 64-yard touchdown. The sophomore was one of only three Spartans to score.
Soria returned a kickoff for 36 yards and converted three tackles on the defensive side of the football.
Soria finished the 2007 season with 835 yards on 119 carries, 12 touchdowns and an 83.5 yards-per-game average.

In each of their first games of the season, the Spartans topped the Cardinals by a decent margin.
Amelia Medrano led the Spartans with two goals.
Jayleen Lemus and Cecilia Ramirez each punched in one score.
Strathmore's junior varsity squad won 2-1. Emily Clifton and Marlen Prado each scored one goal for the Spartans.
The Lindsay varsity boys won 5-2 and the Cardinals' junior varsity team won 9-1.

The Spartans suffered a tight loss in their first game of the season.
Hecor Gomez led Strathmore's scoring with 16 points. Jake Duffin finished with 12 points and 11 blocks. Alex Maciel had seven points. Robert Feriera and George Ojeda each scored two.
The Spartans will host Lindsay at 7 p.m. on Friday.

The Spartans opened their 2007 season with a win over the Tigers.
Maribel Bravo, a freshman, cashed in a double-double for Strathmore. She scored 14 points and collected 11 rebounds.
Lisa Lopez scored six points. Nancy Flores had five. Stephanie Cabral added four. Denise Cabral had three. Zoie Grasmick, Brianna Ramirez and Chelseas Velasquez all scored two.
The Spartans will travel to take on Lindsay at 7 p.m. on Friday.
