Porterville golf beats Granite Hills

The Porterville High girls golf team had its second straight match scoring under 300 as the Panthers went on to beat Granite Hills 292-337 on Thursday at River Island.

Porterville (3-0) slipped back a little bit from its 282 score in its 282-391 win over Lindsay on Tuesday, but Panther coach David Herrera was still happy his team broke 300 for the second straight time.

“We’re still under 300 which is great,” Herrera said. “I’m still really pleased with shooting under 300. I’m still pleased with that number.”

For the second straight match, Jaquelyn Forrester shot under 50, following up her 48 against Lindsay with a 49 over nine holes against Granite. “That’s where we need her to be,” Herrera said.

Mina Hassanshahi struggled a bit after shooting a 49 against Lindsay but still posted a solid score of 56 against Granite. Jackie Brown made the most improvement for Porterville, improving her score by 10 strokes from the Lindsay match, shooting a 61. Lauren Minter and Alley Henry also each shot a 63 for the Panthers.

For Granite Hills, Alexis Quilling shot a 64, Brooklynn Quilling fired a 69, Bailey Conley fired a 67 and Myra Ramos and Carolina Rodriguez each added a 73.

“They were a lttle rusty,” said Granite Hills coach Richard Boyd about his team. “They’re starting to click again. They just need to get a little more practice in. I think we’re going to be pretty good overall.”
