PC: Greenway, Nichols named to first team

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

The Porterville College softball team was a few games off the .500 pace and won’t make the playoffs this year.

But the Pirates (19-28, 7-11 Central Valley Conference) should be proud of their post-season numbers.

Monica Greenway was named to the first team all-CVC as a catcher. The sophomore batted .422 in conference play and was third overall in hits, fifth in runs and yielded a fielding percentage of .962.

Greenway was one of six players from the CVC to have her name put on the NorCal ballot.

Kasey Nichols, a graduate of Porterville High, also was selected to the first team. Nichols, a freshman designated player, batted .393 and served up 14 RBIs.

Outfielder Kriston Gowan was named to the second team-all CVC. Gowan blasted three home runs in conference games.

Jennie Hatch, a Nampa native, made the second team as an infielder. The sophomore hit .382. Hatch’s versatility allowed her to see action as a pitcher, second baseman and shortstop.

Jackie Decker and Amanda Serda were selected to the honorable-mention list.

Decker produced a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and stole 14 bases this year.

Serda batted .269 in the CVC and .340 overall. The Lindsay graduate operated in the circle and played second base.
