Panthers advance to semifinals

The Porterville High baseball team passed postseason test No. 1 Tuesday at home against Foothill.
The sixth-seeded Panthers, who led by nine runs entering the final inning, held on for a 10-6 victory over the No. 11 Trojans in Round 1 of the Division 3 Valley playoffs.
Junior pitcher Phillip Carganilla had a no-hitter with two outs in the seventh inning, but Foothill quickly axed it and tacked on several runs. Carganilla finished with six strikeouts.
Thomas Martin was 2-for-3 with a stolen base, a double and one RBI while Chad Brown went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a double.
The Panthers will host No 14 Cesar Chavez, which upset third-seeded Dinuba, at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The No. 6 Pirates blanked the No. 11 Marauders at Hanford High in Round 1 of the Division 2 playoffs.
Jacob Kasimoff was 1-for-2. Zack Aguilar, Steven Jones and Andrew Vasquez were all 1-for-3.
Monache finished with an overall record of 17-12 and was 8-4 in the East Yosemite League.
