THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

The Monache High School girls golf team competed in the Area tournament on Tuesday at Valley Oaks Golf Course in Visalia.

As a team, the Marauders compiled a score of 503, good enough for third place and a berth in the Valley tournament at Visalia Country Club on Nov. 5.

Individually, Kristen Allard and Stacey Yamaguchi qualified for the Valley tournament at Sunnyside Country Club in Fresno on Oct. 29.

Allard finished in first with a 74 (34, 40) and Yamaguchi carded an 82 (42, 40) for fifth place.

“[The score] was a little disappointing,” Monache coach Jake Winter said. “I think when we play good golf, we would like to be in the 460 to 470 range.”

But the Marauders will have 13 days to polish up their game before competing in the Valley tournament as a team.

“Going into the year, our goal was to qualify as a team for Valley,” Winter said.

“It’s very rewarding. Now we have two weeks to practice and we’ll go out there and see what we can do.”

Kalyn Reed shot 100, Lucy Mendez finished with 118, Sylvia Crandell carded 129 and Daley Roche shot 141.
