Swimmers stroke to victory
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Schools: Porterville and Monache are winners
Crosstown rivals met Friday in an East Yosemite League battle and when the splashing was done Monache High boys and Porterville High girls team swam away with wins.
The Mauraders won by a score of 103-83 and the Panthers earned a 119-61 victory.
MHS Coach Brandon Weaver said that both teams, as a result of Friday’s win, sealed at least a EYL co-championship of sorts. Monache boys and Panther girls are undefeated going into next Saturday’s championship meet.
No individual stars sparkled more than another, Weaver said of his Marauders.
“It’s a team effort,” Weaver said, “and those who finished second put out as much effort and worked as hard as someone who finished first. We work as a team and that’s a winning formula for us.”
Coach Richard Taylor’s team worked hard too, he said.
This is an exciting time for us,” Taylor said. “We go to Tulare next week and we want to win our third championship there. We’ve won two years in a row. The girls are real strong. Out of 12 events they took 11.”
