Monache baseball drops two

Monache didn’t fully take advantage of its scoring chances as it dropped its last two games of the Visalia Tournament on Tuesday, falling to Mira Monte 6-5 and losing to Exeter 5-1.

Against Mira Monte, Monache led 5-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but Mira Monte scored two runs in the fifth and one run in the bottom of the sixth for the win. Monache had 11 plate appearances with runners in scoring position, but couldn’t fully take advantage of those chances.

Steven Alba gave Monache a solid effort on the mound as he went five innings for the Marauders. Martin Guzman took the loss, allowing a run in the sixth.

Offensively for Monache, Alba was 2-for-3 with a double, Nick Aguilar went 3-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base, Guzman had an RBI single and Derek Pharis added a hit.

Against Exeter, the game was tied 1-1 going into the fourth when Exeter scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. Jordan Vasquez pitched a complete game for Monache. The Marauders had only three hits as Alba doubled and Pharis and Guzman each added a hit.
