Exeter moves into semis

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

Don’t look now, but Alana Montgomery’s Exeter volleyball squad that was thought not to be as good as its predecessor is in the Division III semifinals.

The Monarchs (23-7) swept No. 7 Clovis North (25-14, 25-14, 25-20) in the quarterfinals and will now likely run into No. 3 Madera South (should it get by No. 6 Ridgeview).

Tiffany Diaz tallied eight kills while Amanda Monge had seven, two blocks and two aces.

Jessica Runyon continued the balance that is the team’s defining trait with seven kills and 12 digs. Ashtyn “A-Bomb” Atkinson had a five-kill, 16-dig night as well.

Setter Tori Davis had 16 assists with fellow setter Pat Brito getting 13 and serving up two aces.

The No. 2 Monarchs will either host the No. 3 Stallions (23-7, 10-0 NYL) or the No. 6 Wolf Pack (11-11, 6-6 SWYL) at 7 p.m., Tuesday.
