Burton wrestlers strong at McDermont Tourney

The Burton Bulldogs wrestling team placed 15th overall out of 67 teams in the second annual tournament featuring more than 700 middle school wrestlers from across the state and out of state at McDermont Fieldhouse. Burton was ninth out of 46 teams in the 11 and under division and 11th out of 38 teams in the 8 and under class. Josh Newsom went unbeaten to win a title, Seth Garcia took second, Matt Stenson was fourth, Brian Benevides and Chacho Moreles were both fifth and Paul Soto took sixth for Burton. Burton offers the chance for kindergarten through eighth graders to wrestle for free from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Burton Middle School cafeteria.
