Local Roundup: MHS runners shine at Golden West

Monache High cross country had an impressive showing at the Golden West Invitational on Friday.

The Marauders were tops in Division II in varsity boys and girls, junior varsity boys and frosh-soph boys. The JV girls were fourth in Div. II.

Monache’s varsity boys were second overall, being edged out by Div. III and Valley power McFarland. Leading the way for MHS were Jorge Ceballos who was seventh finishing the 5k course in 16 minutes and 40 seconds and Jesus Salas (9, 16:45).

Medals were awarded to the top 25.

Ismael Fernandez was 25th (17:24), Joel Mendez was 27th (17:28), and Gustavo Rivera was 38th (18:04) to round out the scoring for MHS. Cesar Garcia was 46th and Troy Castillo was 63rd.

Monache’s varsity girls were paced by Kacie Williams (30, 21:13), Monique Orozco (50, 22:28), Marlene Alcantar (67, 23:01), Jackie Escalero (110, 24:29) and Nicole Taylor (111, 24:31).

Monache’s JV girls were led by Ruby Garcia (23, 23:48).

Medalling for the JV boys were Jacob Rankin (6, 19:17) and Ethan Skiles (23, 20:19).

Finishing in the top 50 were Dexter Cadiz (31, 20:50), Chris Alcantar (40, 21:20) and Trevor Valencia (46, 21:32).

Frosh-soph boys were led by Kyler Tabor (10, 18:58), Israel Sotelo (30, 20:19), Robert Mendez (42, 20:40), Marcos Mosqueda (53, 20:51), and Matt Gamble (57, 21:00).

Baseball
Three PC players in all-star game

Three Porterville College baseball players will be featured in the Northern California Fall All-Star Games today at Sacramento City College.

PC infielders Nate Crocker, Dean Burkett and Aaron Gray will play in the second of two games at 1 p.m. Crocker and Burkett will play for the Gray while Gray will play for the Navy.

Volleyball
PC 3, COS 1

Porterville College remained undefeated in Central Valley Conference play with a 3-1 win Friday over the College of the Sequoias.

PC (3-0 CVC, 7-5) won at home 25-14, 25-20, 17-25, 25-18.

Amanda Monge had 24 kills, four blocks and 10 digs, Tori Davis had three kills, 12 blocks, six digs and two aces, Allison Clem had seven kills, one block and one ace, Stephanie

Donseroux had 32 assists, two kills, two blocks, eight digs and two aces, Danielle Carrillo had four kills and seven digs, and Kasey Markarian had four kills, six digs and one ace for PC.
