Lindsay forward Seth Townsend pulls up for a putback in the first half of Saturday's All-Star Game.

West All-Stars pound short-handed East

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

VISALIA -— Three of the Orange Belt’s finest were selected to play in Saturday’s Tulare-Kings Counties All-Star Game in Visalia.

Only one, Lindsay forward Seth Townsend, showed up.

Townsend’s East squad could’ve likely used the services of Porterville’s Phillip Carganilla and Granite Hills’ Curtis Keene as the West team routed the East, 112-74.

Despite 24 points from El Diamante’s Ross Rivera, the East got little extra help in a lightning-fast paced game suited for Carganilla and Keene, who missed practices and couldn’t play.

“We tried,” said Townsend, who scored six points on putbacks. “A lot of the time we didn’t have any structure out there.”

The West was led by Lemoore’s trio of T.J. Johnson, Cheyanne Alcala and Kameron Hoyt, who scored 16, 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Tulare Western’s Frankie Coelho scored 12 points and won the halftime slam dunk contest to earn MVP honors.

“It was meant to be fun and it was a good experience,” Townsend said. “I’m glad to be a part of it.”
