Grizzlies edge Mustangs, move into 2nd-place tie

The Grizzlies pulled off a coup against Tulare Western, winning 10-8 to move into a second-place tie with the Mustangs and Monache in league.
Caitlin Jetter split her singles match 6-0, 6-2 while Sarah Herrera played what coach Randy Smee called the “match of her year so far,” winning 6-1, 6-0 against Western’s star Brooke Hillman.
Kelsey Blackburn lost her first-round match 3-6, 5-7.
Mai Lor and Bailey Ward teamed up to handle their opponents, 6-4, 6-3 while Maira Zavala and Jennifer Castrita needed extra points to win 7-6, 7-4 (6-3). Sheng Lor and Lisa Yang lost theirs, 1-6, 1-6, as the Grizzlies took a 7-5 lead after two rounds.
Mai Lor and Sheng Lor won their third-round matches, 6-3 and 6-0, respectively. Ward fell 4-6.
Herrera and Jetter took another marquee matchup against Hillman and her doubles partner while Zavala and Castrita lost their final-round match, 5-7. Blackburn and Yang lost by the same score as the night grew dark.
Granite (7-2-2 EYL) beat the Mustangs for the first time and will play Porterville on Monday.
