Exeter downed by Tehachapi in opener
Exeter opened strong but was nearly shutout in the second half by Tehachapi on Friday at Exeter.
The Warriors overcame a 18-7 halftime deficit into a 38-25 road win.
Tehachapi (1-0) scored 30 unanswered-points in the second half, reaching the end zone two times in the third quarter.
Phil Rhodes led the Warriors with two rushing touchdowns —32 and 9 yards — and finished with 86 yards on 14 carries.
The Monarchs (0-1) jumped out to a 12-0 lead on rushing TDs of 1 and 3 yards from Joey Kunkel and A.J. Tobias, respectively. Tobias finished with 128 yards on 28 carries. Chase Roldan ran for a 1-yard score and Zach Vernon passed a 35-yard TD to Jacob Sertich.
