Sanders visits the Cardinals
It was expected that the Atlanta Falcons would re-sign James Sanders, but it looks like the football team is going to have plenty of competition for the 2001 Monache graduate services.
Sanders, who is an unrestricted free agent, posted on his Twitter page on Monday that he visited the Arizona Cardinals and liked what he saw. “Just got done visiting the Cardinals,” Sanders tweeted. “Good trip!! Like what they got going on AZ! We’ll see what happens.”
There is somewhat of a logjam in the Cardinals’ secondary as Arizona has one of the best strong safeties in the NFL in Adrian Wilson and strong safety is Sanders’ main position. The Cardinals have also signed another strong safety, Hamza Abdullah.
But Sanders is a versatile performer who can play free safety as well. If the Cardinals were to sign Sanders, he would likely be Wilson’s main backup, but could also be used in a position like a nickel back as well.
The Falcons mainly used Sanders as a backup last year to starting strong safety William Moore. Atlanta still has starting safeties Moore and Thomas DeCoud and if the Falcons re-sign Sanders, a 7-year NFL veteran, he would still be a backup.
Another good fit for Sanders could be the San Diego Chargers, who could still be in the market for a strong safety. The Chargers have signed a strong safety in Atari Bigby, but could still be looking for depth at the position.
