Despite losing several top swimmers to graduation last year, Porterville-area schools are digging deep into their lineups to pull out wins.

A total of 12 schools competed at the Monache Invitational last Saturday with both Porterville and Monache girls placing in the top three. Monache boys tied for third while Porterville boys finished sixth.

Porterville’s Coriann Snyder and Matlyn Morris each tallied four first-place victories. The senior and the freshman each notched two individual wins before teaming up in the medley and 400-yard freestyle relays for two more.

Jenna Morris took first in the 500-yard and 200-yard freestyle races for 14 points to the Panthers’ total of 93 points — good for first at the meet.

Kyla Hill and Marnie Kavern were also part of the first-place medley relay team.

For the Marauders, Ally Bernard picked up seven points with a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle while the girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Bernard, Amanda Kaye, Mary Imbach and Elizabeth Jacobs clinched first as well.

Colton Conway snagged the only first-place medal in the 50-yard freestyle race for Monache while the Porterville foursome of Luke Peltzer, Alec MacIsaac, Blake Shannon and Andrew Pugh medaled in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
