Shew, Pirates blow by Cuesta

The Porterville College women's basketball team got its first win of the season, in San Luis Obispo, Wednesday night.

PC (1-2) topped Cuesta College 72-56 behind a 29-point night from freshman guard Alex Shew.

Shew was 8-for-14 from the field and shot 16 free throws, sinking 12 of them.

Former Panther teammate Stevee Thomas netted 12 points and got two steals while the team's lone ex-Grizzly, sophomore guard Quaraya Fuston, also got to the dozen mark.

Center Shannon Dez and forward Kee'Maya Snowden each paced the Pirates in rebounds with six with Snowden pouring in seven points and Dez getting four.

Sophomore guard Kalyn Reed, a former Marauder, got five points on the night.

PC will head into the desert on Friday for the Barstow Tournament. The Pirates play Mt. San Jacinto at 2 p.m., Friday.
