Strathmore rally falls short against Parlier

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

Parlier 10, Strathmore 9

After splitting its first two games, Saturday, at the Farmersville Tournament, Strathmore baseball dipped below .500 with a loss to Parlier, Tuesday.

The Spartans racked up nine hits, led by Jorge Paz’s 2-for-4 performance, and generally seemed to do everything else right, except for the six errors.

“Those are what killed us,” Strathmore coach John Houey said.

Strathmore stared at a 10-5 deficit heading into the fifth inning. Three singles, a walk and a final RBI single by Alex Lara put the Spartans back in the game at 10-9.

But it wasn’t enough as Strathmore fell to 1-2 before today’s tournament contest against Exeter.

Brian Tapia doubled for two RBI in the first inning and Jesse Soria added another single for the Spartans, who boast 10 seniors this season.

Pitcher Mario Lemus allowed six runs in the first three innings before stepping off the mound.
