Monache tennis dispatches Union, looks forward to Porterville
Monache boys tennis swept through Tulare Union, 9-0, on Monday in anticipation of Wednesday’s Round 2 fight with nemesis Porterville.
If the first match is any indication — a 5-4 decision in favor of Monache on April 15 — this one should be a barnburner.
Against the Redskins, No. 1 Goldie Rayani and No. 6 Jermaine Knox each picked up golden sets of 6-0, 6-0 versus their counterparts.
No. 2 Drexler Alcantara handily won his matchup, 6-0, 6-2, and No. 5 Matt Ecobiza took his, 6-4, 6-0.
No. 3 Brandon Nucum (7-5, 6-2) and No. 4 Awais Khalid (6-4, 6-3) provided the only semblance of drama with their wins.
The shortened doubles sets also played into Monache’s favor as Ecobiza and Nucum remained strong in their new partnership, winning 8-5.
The No. 2 team of Alcantara and Rocky Phaphol won, 8-4, as did the No. 3 tandem of Mark Daen and Randy Alonzo.
