Monache boys' tennis rolls past Granite Hills
Comments 0 | Recommend 0EYL heavyweights Monache boys’ tennis had little trouble with cross-town rival Granite Hills in a 7-1 rout, Monday.
No. 1 Goldie Rayani began his 2010 campaign as the EYL’s best with a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Grizzlies top player, Johnny Yang.
Monache’s No. 2 Drexler Alcantara cruised by David Tiernan, 6-0, 6-1 and Brandon Nucum topped Robert Madrigal, 6-3, 6-4.
No. 4 Awais Khalid handled Granite’s Ker Thao and the Marauders final two of Matt Ecobiza (6-1, 6-0 over James Capps) and Mark Acoba (6-1, 6-0 over Matt Ramirez) made it a Marauders sweep in singles play.
The Grizzlies doubles’ teams snapped back as Tiernan and Madrigal teamed to upset Alcantara and Ecobiza, 9-7.
Monache’s No. 3 doubles team of Mark Daen and Randy Alonzo crushed Winston Thao and Milton Ramirez before Jermaine Knox and Rocky Phaphol could finish their match with Granite’s Yang and Thao due to rain.
The Marauders (7-1, 1-0 EYL) travel to Delano on Wendesday.
