Mt. Whitney 6, Monache 1

Mt. Whitney handed Monache softball its first loss of the season as the Marauders continue to look for consistency on the field.

Monache coughed up six errors that yielded four Pioneer runs.

“We had some jitters and it showed,” Monache coach Dave Koontz said. “We just didn’t play a good game and they took advantage of all our mistakes.”

Shortstop Chandra Jones continued her strong play from last season, going 3-for-3 at the plate and scoring a run.

Kaitlyne Thompson finished 2-for-4 with a double. She also closed the game on the mound, allowing three hits and three runs.

Starting pitcher Kaitlyne Thompson pitched the first four innings, registering a strikeout, a walk, two unearned runs and five hits.

Monache (1-1) hosts Lemoore on Wednesday before heading to the Bakersfield North Tournament from March 11-13.
