Marauders hang with Mustangs, but fall short

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

Tulare Western 250, Monache 270

Reigning EYL champs Tulare Western returned all six of its players this season and look to be the favorites again.

But that didn't stop Monache's girls golf team from putting a scare into the Mustangs.

Two Marauders — Jackie Ramirez and Daley Roche — paced Monache as they each carded 49, one better than Western's second-best finisher — Tara Stafford.

Devin Meredith (54), Kim Leyva (56) and Zoey Randhawa (62) round out Monache's top five.

Kodie Stanley was the tournament's medalist, shooting a low of 42 at River Island for the Mustangs.

Western's No. 3 Lapadula shot a 49 while Brianna Hollingshed and Morgan Migil recorded a 55 and 54, respectively.

Leyva shot the tournament's only birdie on the ninth hole.

Monache (2-1) dropped its first loss of the season.
