Lindsay's road through playoffs halts in Fresno
Fresno Christian 4, Lindsay 3
Lindsay’s playoffs hopes and a chance for a possible rematch with Corcoran were dashed as No. 4 Fresno Christian nipped the Cardinals, Thursday.
The Eagles’ pitching staff snuffed the typically high-octane Cardinal offense, holding Lindsay to just four hits.
Tony Perez batted 2-of-3, including an RBI triple, but Misa Villarreal and Mike Hernandez were the only other Cardinals to notch a hit.
Villarreal pitched five innings, striking out seven, but the Eagles managed five hits off the junior.
Lindsay led from the beginning, but a two-run fifth put the Eagles on top, 3-2. The Cardinals would tie it up at the top of the sixth, but the Eagles responded with one final run in the bottom of the same frame and both squads went scoreless the rest of the way.
Gary Baker relieved Villarreal in the final two innings, allowing just one hit.
The Cardinals, who return nine juniors next season, finished with a record of 18-11.
