MHS, PHS dominate H2O polo Valley honors

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

Not that any of it was a surprise, but members of the Monache and Porterville boys water polo teams will likely be grateful this Thanksgiving for claiming Division II season honors in sweeping fashion.

Monache 2-meter man Marc Wolfe earned the top award as the Central Valley’s 2008 Div. II MVP.

Six of his Div. II champion teammates also distinguished themselves with three   players — Nic Lalanne, Evan Thomas and Devin Luis — making the cut on the First Team.

Kyler Zike represented the Marauders from the Second Team while Derron Roan and Josh Woods garnered honorable mentions.

Porterville’s squad placed one of its own — Dylan Walley — on the Second Team while Titus Moore earned honorable mention.

One surprise, however, was that the Panthers’ Mike Duncan — one of the leading scorers in the EYL this past season — was snubbed off the list.

Both the Panthers and Marauders enjoyed successful seasons in 2008. After a two-loss league record, Porterville bowed out to Golden West in the quarterfinals while Monache eventually beat the Blazers for the Div. II championship.

Six of Golden West’s players earned Div. II honors, the second-highest of any other team.

Five players from El Diamante and four from Sunnyside also earned at least honorable mentions as well.
