In the battle of Porterville, so to speak, James Sanders won the early battle, but Bear Pascoe and the New York Giants ended up winning the war.
Pascoe, a 2004 Granite Hills graduate, and the Giants, beat Sanders, a 2001 Monache graduate, and the Atlanta Falcons 24-2 in an NFL playoff game on Sunday. The Giants advance to travel to Green Bay to meet the Packers this Sunday in a 1:30 p.m. game to be televised by FOX.
Sanders scored the Falcons’ two points in the second quarter when he pressured Eli Manning into intentional grounding from his own end zone. Sanders had Manning wrapped up when his pass didn’t reach the line of scrimmage, therefore resulting in intentional grounding. and since the grounding happened in the end zone, the Falcons were awarded a safety, giving them a 2-0 lead in the second quarter.
Sanders replaced an injured William Moore at safety and had a solid game, with seven tackles. He had another tackle on punt coverage, but didn’t receive credit for the tackle because a penalty was called on the Giants on the play.
Meanwhile, Pascoe’s highlight including being the lead blocker on Ahmad Bradshaw’s 30-yard run that set up a field goal, giving the Giants a 10-2 lead.
“Good work today GMen, this is an awesome team to be a part of,” Pascoe posted on his Twitter page after the win. Pascoe also tweeted, “Giants fans you were down right AWESOME today.”
Sanders tweeted, “Forget this year.” He also tweeted, “Well, it’s been a fun ride this year Atlanta. Thanks for all the love and support. Who knows what’s in store for the future.” Sanders added he would never forget the support he received.
