Tigers keep Marauders track and field winless

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

In its first East Yosemite League meet of the season, Monache track and field came up short, Wednesday, against Delano.

The Marauders have placed second in a pair of non-league tournaments but have yet to clinch an overall victory.

Delano boys topped Monache, 71-65, despite seven Marauders taking first-place in individual events.

Lorenzo Avila tied for first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.4 seconds while Jorge Ceballos cruised with a time of 11 minutes, 17 seconds in the 3,200-meter run.

Monache can thank its football team for its dominance in the jumps as Grayson Henderson took first in the long jump, Martin Moreno claimed the triple jump and Andrew Martinez recorded the best high jump.

Chris Knutson and Abraham Lamas placed first in the pole vault and the shot put, respectively.

Monache girls also snagged seven first-place finishes, but fell shy of the Tigers, 69-63.

Danica Taylor, Brittany Cabeje, Hailey Page and Rachelle Arias comprised the winning 100-meter relay team with a time of 56.8 seconds.

Mercedes Alcantar medaled twice — the 300-meter hurdle (55.7) and high jump (4 feet-8 inches).

Melissa Alvarez finished first in the 3,200-meter run while Ana Asuncion (pole vault) and Kim Leyva (discus throw) also picked up top finishes.

The Marauders’ frosh-soph team also lost, 80-40.

Monache takes a bye next week before a meet with Tulare Western, Wednesday, March 24.
