Monarchs hold off Garces in OT, improve to 2-0
Exeter 14, Garces 13 OT
The Exeter boys’ team is off to a 2-0 start under new coach Jim Mainwaring. Their second win was far more suspenseful, however.
Down 8-6 heading into the fourth quarter, the Monarchs rallied, scoring five goals and sending the game to overtime tied at 11.
Jonathan Castellow, Michael Marinos and Max Carter gave Exeter a three-goal lead in overtime and they were able to hang on for a one-goal win.
“The intensity level jumped up tremendously,” Mainwaring said. “They fought off a strong, physical team. It was just an intense, awesome game.”
Zack Schuler again scored five goals with Castellow also netting five.
The strong start is something the team hasn’t experienced in a while.
“They’ve struggled the last few years. This is a hell of a start,” Mainwaring said. “I’m ecstatic.”
