PC volleyball takes home hardware
The Porterville College volleyball squad enjoyed a nice dinner out as the college divvied out its annual team awards, Monday night.
Outside hitter Olga Velasquez and setter Laura Lopez were named the Pirates’ Co-MVPs for their solid careers in Porterville.
Velasquez finished third in the state of California in kill percentage (.367) while Lopez finished 12th in the state with nearly 10 assists per game.
Former Exeter Monarchs libero Sabina Lopez and outside hitter Evan Dillon received Defensive Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, respectively.
Freshman hitter Katrina Goulbourne was named Rookie of the Year while Chyna Smith received the Most Inspirational award.
Zori Hernandez and Nansi Reyes, the team’s defensive specialist, were named the Most Improved players on the team.
PC finished ranekd 10th in NorCal and 21st overall in the state — the best showings for both in school history.
