    The Porterville Recorder

Porterville College has hired a new athletic trainer, according to a Monday press release.

Anja Goebel, who has been working as the head athletic trainer at Redwood High School for the past six years, will begin at Porterville College immediately.

Goebel, a certified athletic trainer, graduated with a BS degree in kinesiology from Fresno State in 2002 and a masters degree in 2004. She transferred to Fresno State from College of the Sequoias, where she played basketball and earned her AA in liberal arts, math and science and sports medicine.

Goebel, a German native, has played basketball semi-professionally in Germany for a number of years and provided athletic training services for players at Reebok and Nike basketball camps where she also served as a coach.

At Redwood, Goebel served approximately 700 student-athletes in 20 interscholastic sports. For the past two months, she has acted as interim head athletic trainer for Reedley College.

Her husband, Dennis, is the Director of Sports Medicine at COS. The couple resides in Visalia.
