Mount Mary signs Esparza

Mount Mary College, an NAIA school in South Dakota, has officially announced the signing of Lindsay High’s Rosie Esparza to play volleyball at the school.

Esparza is a 5-4 libero who averaged an oustanding 35 digs per match this past season. Esparza was named to the all-East Sequoia League second team.

“Rosie is making a big move by coming all the way from California — it shows how very dedicated to the sport she is,” Mount Mary coach Candice Climer said.  She has played some tough competition on the West Coast so we are excited to have her join our Lancers team and for her to bring that competitive attitude with her.”

“I believe that Rosie will commit her heart to becoming a defensive standout and show unselfish loyalty to Mount Marty and their community, just as she has done here,” Lindsay High volleyball coach Amy Pohl said. “Mount Marty was a very important choice for Rosie as her faith leads her career choices and accomplishments on the court.  MMC is almost 1700 miles away from her home, and for the first time she will be away from her twin sister.  Rosie will be an inspiration for many Lindsay High School Cardinal athletes and we are very proud of her.”

Esparza, daughter of Simona Esparza, plans to major in criminal justice at Mount Marty College and is a recipient of an Academic Incentive Scholarship along with her volleyball award.
